Simple Steps For Healthier Family

Simple Steps for a Healthier Family

How active should you be?

Looking to boost your family’s health? Consider this practical advice for keeping loved ones feeling their best.

Q: How much exercise does my family need?

A: Being physically active helps control weight, improve cardiovascular health, and prevent osteoporosis and diabetes. Ideally, adults should get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, and children should get at least 60 minutes daily.

Q: How can I help my family make nutritious food choices?

A: You can’t go wrong with fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Try to avoid foods that contain refined sugar and white flour. They don’t offer many nutrients, just empty calories. And remember to limit fruit juices and soda, which tend to be loaded with sugar.

Q: How much sleep should we get each night?

A: Children ages three to 12 need between ten and 12 hours of sleep (including naps). Adults require eight hours per night. If your family isn’t getting enough shut-eye, put them on a sleep schedule. Have everyone wake up and go to bed at the same times each day. This will help keep them energized all day.

Q: Sometimes our skin gets very dry. How can we keep it supple?

A: Steer clear of alcohol-based cleansers, which strip skin of its natural oils. Instead, use moisturizing bars and body washes, which seal in moisture and help skin regain its healthy glow.
